Strategy guide

There is no single conventional ladder. Count wild deuces before evaluating anything else, then use the branch for four, three, two, one, or zero wild cards.

The three rules that move the game

Never discard a deuce

Every deuce is fully wild. Keeping it preserves the widest routes to premium made hands.

Pairs and Two Pair do not pay

With no deuce, these are draws to trips, a full house, or quads—not finished winning hands.

Fewer wilds means more pattern detail

With two or three deuces the branch is short. With zero or one, suit, gaps, and royal rank matter much more.

DECISION LADDER

Scan from the top. Stop at the first match.

CORE ORDER

Four deuces

Keep all four and draw the fifth card.

Three deuces

Keep a made Wild Royal or Five of a Kind; otherwise keep the three deuces.

Two deuces

Keep made quads-or-better, four to a royal, or the strongest straight-flush draws; otherwise keep both deuces.

One deuce: made premium hand

Keep a made Straight Flush through Wild Royal before considering a draw.

One deuce: royal and straight-flush draws

Four to a royal and strong suited runs can outrank ordinary made hands.

One deuce: made trips or selected three-card draws

When no listed structure qualifies, fall back to the deuce alone.

No deuces: four to a royal or made trips-or-better

These lead the natural-card branch.

No deuces: straight-flush and royal draws

Suit and connection outrank isolated high ranks.

No deuces: four-flush, Two Pair, or a pair

These are improvement draws because only trips or better pays.

No deuces: weak draw or draw five

Jacks through Aces have no standalone pair bonus in this game.

Why this isn’t an exception chart

Mistakes worth recognizing on sight

Using high-card logic from Jacks

A Jack, Queen, King, or Ace has no special pair value in Deuces Wild.

Keeping every card near a deuce

Unrelated natural cards dilute the draw. Often the correct hold is the deuce alone.

Using Full-Pay Deuces strategy

NSUD and Full-Pay schedules have meaningfully different hold priorities.
